Gasoline station explosions happen in movies because of careful planning between film makers, special effects experts, safety personnel, and pyrotechnicians. Often these explosions are captured using high speed imagery as the naked eye would likely see a black puff rather than a rolling fire ball. It's a special effect. However, in real life, there are accidental explosions that happens just like in movies.
A Volkswagen SpaceFox exploded while refueling in a gasoline station in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. A 27- year old woman who was at the petrol station instantly died when she was thrown to the ground when her car suddenly exploded.
The gasoline station attendant was filling Erica de Lima Thiengo Siqueiraa’s car with gas. Few seconds after that, the car exploded damaging another nearby car and the roof of the establishment.
Jorge Siqueira de Souza was standing the car window and was talking to Erica when the explosion happened. The 45- year old man suffered serious injury as well as two other gasoline station employees. Unfortunately, Erica did not make it alive.
Rio de Janeiro Fire Department reported that the cause of explosion was not because of mobile phone usage just like what other people were thinking. It was because of pressure build up inside the has cylinder while the car was being filled up.
This is a warning that for those who usually drive, make sure to have your cars have a regular check up to make sure everything is safe during your travels. We do not know when accidents will occur but prevention of this type of accident will surely help!
