To save their farm from going bankrupt, a couple from Pennsylvania sold their daughter to a 52-year old man named Lee Kaplan.
According to reports of CBS Pennsylvania, the parents of the girl Daniel Stoltzfus and Savilla Stoltzfus were arrested along with Kaplan after child welfare workers discovered that Kaplan’s house has 11 other young girls inside. The complaint was submitted by his neighbor Jen Bets.
“It’s never the wrong time to do the right thing. There were signs,” Bets reported.
The girl, who is now 18, also confessed that he is the father of her two children, 6-month old and three-year old, respectively. The underage children are now under protective custody.
Kaplan faced multiple charges such as statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault on a person below 16, corruption of minors, and contact with a minor involving sexual offenses, according to the Bucks County Courier Times.
Daniel and Savilla claimed that the children in Kaplan’s home are theirs but no legal papers were found to confirm this. They were also arrested on child endangerment charges.
"(She was) too young to be the wife, too old to be holding his hand," Bets said after seeing Kaplan with the girls on the street. “I just want them to get help and get back and be happy. They're so sad and fearful every time I see them. That's what made me call,” she added.
