Harassment against women is a long-running issue plaguing our society.
However, little by little, women are fighting back to affirm their rights. Their battle is being fought but victory is still out of reach as daily circumstances prove that women are still being degraded and objectified.
Recently, a woman’s post detailing a disturbing encounter she had with a man on a jeepney made rounds on social media.
On her lengthy post, the netizen shared how a man sitting across from her in a jeepney took out his private part. He did this in public and in broad daylight.
The man then started to masturbate, leaving her sickened and traumatized. The horrible experience shocked her, but she was still able to take a photograph of the pervert.
On her post, she also recalled similar incidents that happened to her in the past. She even pointed out how her supposedly proper and decent clothing did not stop these men from their disgusting behavior.
She ended her statement with a strong and meaningful phrase, "But you should know – this happens."
Her post urged other netizens to share their own experiences with sexual harassment. Some gave her their sympathies, while others expressed admiration for her bravery.
"I admire your bravery. Male individuals in the jeepney with you, who were supposed to be men, should have politely kicked this guy's dick out the jeepney," – Reuel Sarrosa Enerio.
"Hi! i just want to say THANK YOU FOR SO SPEAKING UP ABOUT THIS. I know its been difficult for you, and I, along with many thousands of women, understand it. We go through it everyday (yes, maybe not all the dick in face fucked up experience) but we all get catcalled, objectified, threatened, belittled. We all know the notion of what it feels like to be caught helpless in moments like this. What can we do? How can we speak up? How do we fight this? We are always frozen in the moment. And that is the scariest part. I understand," – Marika Callangan.
Unfortunately, the post also elicited comments that defended the perverted man.
"Ikaw naman pinupuri ka na nga eh kawawa naman si manong," – Emanuel Habulan.
This ignorant comment stirred the pot, causing netizens to respond and express their outrage.
"This is why Philippines have a prevalent rape culture. Men like you have no respect and treat women's bodies like you own it. Mahiya ka naman." – Giselle Dela Cruz.
"Excuse me but when did whipping out your dick a sign of flattery?!? Ugh! I swear some men live in a sick twisted reality and have very low moral compass." – Cynthia Diaz.
