Miss Universe Organization (MUO) president Paula Shugart commended the country after the 65th Miss Universe pageant was a success.
"This is the best show I’ve ever done," Shugart exclaimed.
It has been two decades since the country last hosted the prestigious international pageant.
During the press conference with Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere of France just after the coronation, Shugart expressed her gratitude to the people who made "the 2016 franchise happen". She thanked businessman-politician Luis "Chavit" Singson and also the Department of Tourism (DOT).
"We first talked about this in July and here we are seven months after with a worldwide telecast in over 190 countries and millions of viewers all watching the Philippines," Shugart said.
"It is very exciting and I want to thank the Filipino people and the Philippine media for their support."
The Philippine Tourism Secretary, Wanda Corazon Teo shared how heartwarming it was for her to hear such praises from the Organization given the many sacrifices and work the Philippines gave in order to make the pageant happen.
Teo also insisted that the country's hosting of this year's pageant was "perfect". According to the DOT secretary, since January 15, when the organization for the pageant began, that the MUO was "very happy with what was happening."
The MUO President Shugart had been receiving countless inquiries due to the pageant asking where the country is, says Teo.
"That alone was a sign that many people are starting to get interested about the Philippines," she pointed out.
"We are just waiting to be recognized. It’s about time. We have so much beauty. We have so much to offer," Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach said.
Wurtzbach said during the competition at the SM Mall of Asia Arena that hosting the pageant was an effort to once again put the country on the world stage.
The first time the country hosted the beauty contest was on 1974, the second on 1994.
