When a remake of "Mara Clara" was made, it got the whole country talking. After all, the original was one of ABS-CBN's most memorable dramas. It made Judy Ann Santos the ‘Queen of Pinoy Soap Opera’ and Gladys Reyes the ‘Primera Kontrabida’ of Philippine television.
But what really got the people talking were Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes, both up-and-coming actresses at that time whose careers were launched by Star Magic. Kathryn reprised the role of Mara, the series’ protagonist, while Julia gave life to Clara, the main antagonist of the series.
From then on, Julia began to appear in several teleseryes in starring roles, playing Katerina in ‘Walang Hanggan’ (which garnered her the Princess of Television Award), Sarah in ‘Muling Buksan Ang Puso’, and Mona in the period drama ‘Ikaw Lamang’.
She was touted as the Kapamilya network’s ‘Drama Princess’ and was paired with different leading men, most notably Coco Martin. Her most recent appearance is her playing the dual role of the twin sisters in ‘Doble Kara’ which was billed the Best Daytime TV Series by TV Series Craze Award.
In her dual role, Julia won her second Gawad Tanglaw Award for Best Actress and received a nomination for the PMPC Star Award for Best Actress.
Apart from her acting stint, Julia has received lots of compliments for her stunning beauty and her statuesque figure. The actress stands at a towering 5'6” – quite tall for Filipinos – probably due to her German blood.
These pictures show how Julia has blossomed into a drop-dead gorgeous young lady:
