Recently, Iza Calzado got the internet buzzing after dressing up as Imelda Marcos in Tim Yap's Birthday Party. It was themed as Miss Universe and guests were expected to be in costume.
Calzado looked stunning in her long blue gown, which she posted photos of in her Instagram account. She captioned one with: "Decided to channel my inner Imelda Marcos for the party since I love shoes and I love wearing the terno just like Madame Imelda!" and another with "Imelda Marcos.. I hope I get to play her for a film one day. What an interesting character study she would be!"
However, not everyone was happy with her costume choice. Many netizens bashed her for glorifying the most corrupt first lady in Philippine history. Calzado finally broke her silence on the issue saying: "Opinionated and sensitive about EVERYTHING.. even a PARTY COSTUME! Is this the kind of society we want? A greatly divided nation?"
She also explained in her Twitter account saying: "I posted that without malice or any intention of hurting the victims of Martial Law. No political agenda. I stay away from political posts."
She also urged everyone to just move on from the past and said: "Yes, we must never forget our history but we should also live in the present and look towards a bright future. A unified future."
But in the end, she apologized saying: "Kung may nasaktan man ako, patawad. Again, my intention was never to hurt or offend you. This will be my last tweet about this. Peace."
