Coleen Alilio, daughter of Cherry Alilio and Batangas City Mayor Eulalio Alilio, got hospitalized after receiving several bruises when forced to join a university sorority group for initiation rites.
According to her mother, Coleen rejected the invitation last December of one of her classmates to join Tau Gamma Sigma at the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU).
Her classmate repeatedly texted and called her to insist but Coleen remained reluctant.
"Talagang hindi po ini-entertain ng anak ko kasi puro po missed calls at reject calls ang ginawa niya," sabi ni Cherry said on an interview with DZMM.
After the Christmas break, Coleen resumed to school on January 3 and bumped into one of the sorority members. She was lured into the university gymnasium.
On the following days, Coleen was tasked to go to an abandoned house in Las Piñas and bring food, a candle, and a sack.
To her surprise, she found 40 members waiting. All of them attacked Coleen using a belt and a piece of wood, beating her up 50 times.
LPU's administration assured the parents of Coleen that they will get to the bottom of this and expel all the students involved in the violent sorority group.
Other students admitted that they too were being forced to join Tau Gamma Sigma but like Coleen, rejected.
The family of the victim is set to file a case against the members of the sorority on Wednesday.
