BLOCKED: Philippine Government Bans Popular Porn Sites!

In 2014, the Philippine Government first mentioned their intention of terminating access to pornography sites. Today, it seems that the intention has been developed into legal action as two popular porn sites are already blocked to users inside the country.

According to a report released by Inquirer.net, two well-known porn sites  (pornhub.com and xvideos.com) now redirect their users to a notification page saying that the sites are already banned and inaccessible whether from a personal computer, laptop or mobile app. "This website has been ordered blocked under authority of the Philippine government pursuant to Republic Act 9775 or the Anti-Child Pornography Law," the notification page states.

The report was released 10 days after a study conducted by pornhub.com revealed that Filipinos top their list of the longest to consume digital pornographic materials. The country topped their list for the third year in a row, showing that Filipinos spend an average of 12 minutes and 45 seconds watching an adult video.

The banned porn sites are still under investigation, and authorities are looking into whether they contain materials violating provisions of the anti-child pornography law. The developers of the site will have to "report the presence of child pornography, as well as the particulars the person maintaining, hosting, distributing or in any manner contributing to such Internet address, to the proper authorities."

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has ordered Internet Service Providers (ISP's) to install software that can terminate or filter pornography sites through a memorandum released in 2014. The initiative of the government to battle child pornography rooted from a study conducted by Terres des Hommes, a European researcher, where it was found that 1,000 adults expressed willingness to pay children to perform sexual acts in front of a webcam.
