A 350 Million Peso worth world class drug rehabilitation center is set to be built in Davao City.
On Tuesday, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte led the ceremony conducted for the Davao City Treatment and Rehabilitation Center for drug dependents.
Resorts World Manila and Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) funded the rehabilitation center which will be built on a 1.9 hectare lot in Barangay Malagos, Baguio District, Davao City.
The world-class drug treatment facility will be seven thousand square meters large and will have 224 beds. Dining and visiting areas are estimated to cost around Php 350 Million. It is set to complement the Bago Oshiro drug rehabilitation center in the same city which has a maximum capacity of 100 persons.
The President of Resorts World Philippines Cultural Heritage Foundation, King U Sian, claimed that they have chosen Davao City because this is where the war against drugs started 20 years ago.
"Davao first kasi this is where it all started. We want to set a strong message that we in the private sector are hand in hand in support in government's effort to eradicate this problem," Sian said in an interview.
Sian also said that they needed one year for the completion of the project. The facility is expected to be functioning by 2017.
