More drama ensued between President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo, as the two came out lashing at each other once again this week.
In an interview while on his Zamboanga trip, President Duterte challenged VP Leni to prove that he is the one behind the killings of suspected drug personalities in the country. If she is successful in doing this, he promised that he will tender his resignation as president, immediately.
“You can ask even one of the government forces if I ordered them to kill a person whose body was in a kneeling position and hands were tied at the back. Ask one of them. If someone says Duterte ordered that, I will resign. I will resign tomorrow,” Duterte said.
President Duterte’s call on VP Leni can be considered a retaliation to her comments that claimed that he is creating a “culture of impunity”, encouraging policemen to kill criminals and skip the rule of law. Duterte admitted that he might have killed three men who kidnapped a lady back in 1988.
“We should perhaps remember that he is the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces and the boss of the police. When we say our President narrates that he goes around to kill a person, what’s alarming is it seems that we’re encouraging a culture of impunity,” Robredo told the media during her visit to Saiyan, Zamboanga del Norte last Friday.
Duterte simply ignored the remarks that the VP gave to him, and instead, took a shot at Mar Roxas, whom he described as "unfitting to be president." He also emphasized he doesn’t plan to stop in his war on drugs.
