The well-promoted town hall interview of Kris Aquino with President Rodrigo Duterte did not push through, as the president was a no-show on their “first date.”
The president said that he suffered from a migraine earlier that day which prevented him from attending the interview.
It was a talk that was supposed to be held during a meeting of small, micro, and medium enterprises in the country, The Go Negosyo Summit, which was in the SMX Convention Center in Davao City.
The coveted one-on-one talk between the former president’s sister and current President Duterte was supposed to mark the comeback of Kris on Philippine television, after a 7 month long hiatus.
Department of Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez said President Duterte’s absence was because he wasn’t feeling well. The event was supposed to be co-hosted with Aquino. But the TV host made light of the development during the televised event: “Sometimes, first dates don’t push through,” she said.
Lopez was the one to break the news to the 500 entrepreneurs that the President will not be able to attend the summit. He explained that his migraine might be caused by his fatigue because he just got back from a trip to Thailand and Malaysia earlier in the week.
Aquino expressed her disappointment and said that she at least be given a chance. Then, she later showed her optimism, saying,
"Minsan, ang first date hindi natutuloy. President Duterte, pinaghandaan kita...26 na lang ang bewang ko ngayon. Sisiguraduhin ko pong magiging 25 para sa next time na pagkikita natin.”
Later that day, Aquino posted on Instagram to address the situation, posting pictures of her trip with the caption #GandangDiNapakinabangan.
