A woman from Liverpool, England gave birth to triplets who were formed through a special and rare phenomenon that amazed doctors.
Becki-Jo Allen and her boyfriend Liam Tierney were expecting triplets. At the initial stage of her pregnancy, Becki-Jo already knew that it is going to be a tough one as she experienced severe morning sickness and headaches. They were surprised when they found out that she was about to give birth to three amazing babies.
Despite being born premature and through an emergency Cesarean-section, the three baby boys – Roman, Rocco and Rohan – all turned out healthy.
The triplets were initially diagnosed as being paternal twins, which meant they came from different eggs, which would lead to evident differences in their physical appearance.
However, their parents were all shocked when they noticed that the triplets looked too similar to each other. The couple then decided to have the triplets undergo further tests.
DNA test results showed that the triplets were actually identical twins which means they all came from one single egg that split into three. This explains why they all look similar.
According to specialists, identical twins from a single egg are rare, but “an egg dividing into three is a very special phenomenon.”
Although people find it hard to see the differences between the boys, their mother has learned how to distinguish them from each other.
“It’s only when they’re asleep that they look the same to me. But they all have completely different personalities. And they’ve all got dark birthmarks between their eyebrows, but Roman’s is slightly darker than the others, and Rohan has got a birthmark on his leg as well,” Becki-Jo explained.
