Anti-Marcos protests are scheduled to occur today, November 25, 2016. The protests are in response to the dubious circumstances surrounding the former president and dictator’s burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. Rallyists cry out for justice for all of the people who suffered through Martial Law under Marcos’ brutal regime.
To counter this, Duterte Youth Chairman Ronald Cardema formulated a rally to show support to the Marcos-Duterte alliance. The former Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (ROTC) commander from the University of the Philippines called on former officers of the ROTC, CAT, and the boy scouts and girl scouts of the Philippines to participate and rally in support of Marcos and Duterte.
Cardema required participants to bring photos of the two controversial presidents. Cardema confidently expects 500-1000 people to show up.
“We’re ready to stand and ready to defend the president.” Cardema said.
“Talagang sasabay kami para ipakita ang suporta naming kay Presidente Duterte. Kahit mas marami sila, maipakita na kahit papano, may youth group supporting the president.” He added.
Cardema, a self-proclaimed “Kabataan For Bongbong” leader, claims to support Marcos’ burial since he considers the late dictator a “war veteran that deserves to rest with his comrades.”
In response to this divisive protest by Marcos apologists, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan secretary general Renato Reyes said he believed that the rally was merely an attempt to manufacture “a false sense of trouble.”
