On Wednesday, so-called drug lord Kerwin Espinosa cleared the name of actor and Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez, among other officials, of any involvement in the drug trade.
In a previous Senate hearing, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) provincial officer Leo Laraga said he heard Albuera Police Chief Jovie Espenido mention the actor’s name as well as several politicians supposedly involved in drug trafficking within the region. This was during a case conference.
This information was purportedly based on slain Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr’s testimony.
Also named by Laraga were Baybay Vice Mayor Mike Cari, Leyte Rep. Vicente “Ching” Veloso, and Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla. Kerwin Espinosa, alleges that Mayor Espinosa, his father, had no knowledge of the trade's key players.
"Di kaya ako barilin niyan(Gomez)? Walang kinalaman yan." Espinosa said. Further, Espinosa said he never had dealings with Atty. John Ungab, Ormoc City Prosecutor Marcelo Onate and Leyte Vice Governor Carlo Loreto.
Previously in a text statement to ABS-CBN News, Gomez said the allegations against him were "ridiculous" and “outright laughable.”
"I will not even dignify that with an answer, huwag nila akong isama sa circus nila!" he added
