PNP Chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa openly wept during the Senate probe on the killings of Albuera Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa.
Bato was very emotional after Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri’s said that FIlipinos were losing trust in the Philippine National Police. The PNP Chief himself agreed, replying that he could not blame the public’s skepticism especially after the controversies they’ve faced.
“I cannot blame the public. Maski ako nga, hindi ko na alam kung sino ang pagkakatiwalaan.” Dela Rosa admitted to the committee.
Although acknowledging the difficulties in managing the whole police force, Bato stated he was determined to reform the PNP he loved so dearly.
“Gustong gusto kong mareform yung PNP, mahal na mahal ko yung organization namin… ako’y hirap na hirap na.. But I will never surrender”
In addtion, Bato reaffirmed his staunch belief in President Duterte. He vowed never to abandon the president or his fight against illegal drugs. “Sinabi ko sa presidente, ‘di kita iiwan sa laban na ‘to. I will be with you, no matter what.”
Senator Zubiri offered comfort to Bato after his tearful statement, saying he trusted the PNP Chief.
